Adelphi initiated Learning Communities, a series of required programs that bring together faculty and first-year students in an integrated learning environment.
First Year Orientation Experience is a 1-credit course that serves as an introduction to the University. Students are introduced to the many resources at Adelphi and how to use them effectively. Some of the topics may include:
This 3-credit course introduces first-year students to intellectual life at Adelphi by addressing the broad theme “self and society” from a multi-disciplinary perspectives. Students from different sections come together to attend lectures by distinguished guests. The seminar format provides an opportunity for extensive discussion and writing that is essential in the development of critical thinking.
All first-year students are assigned the same summer reading. The selection varies each year and can range from fiction and poetry to political science and autobiography. This reading is part of the Adelphi Reads program and gives students an integrated learning experience where they have the chance to share their opinions and develop close relationships with other members of the Adelphi community.
