Getting Started at Adelphi

Counseling Services at Adelphi University

We offer services to help college students cope with specific issues.

The transition to college life can cause additional stress as you adjust to a new environment and a different way of study. Students with disabilities may also require additional services. Adelphi offers services to help students cope with their problems or meet their specific learning needs.

The Student Counseling Center (SCC) provides free, private, and confidential services to any student who has a mental health concern or just needs to talk. Staffed by licensed clinical social workers trained in social work and clinical psychology, graduate-level social work interns, and doctoral level clinical psychology interns, the SCC is open to all students.

The Interfaith Center fosters the ecumenical spirit on the campus; provides opportunities for worship and fellowship; and encourages discussion of spiritual values and sharing of religious traditions.

For underrepresented populations, support, programming and discussions are provided by the Office of Multicultural Affairs within the Center for Student Involvement, as well as by the Adelphi University Mentoring Program. In addition, there are multicultural-based student organizations and departments that collaborate on programs to encourage awareness and to promote social justice.

The Health Services Center and the SCC also operate the Health and Wellness Peer Education Center, which delivers holistic health promotion programs and support to Adelphi students through peer mentors.

Resident therapists at the Center for Psychological Services offer brief and long-term psychotherapy for a range of issues including eating disorders, relationship impasses and anxiety. The Center also offers psychological testing and testing for learning disabilities. The strictly confidential services are available in Garden City and Manhattan.
